The best WhatsApp app for a Shopify store depends on the job. A chat button is enough if customers only need to reach you. Meta’s free WhatsApp app covers order updates, Shopify Messaging covers WhatsApp campaigns, and an all-in-one WhatsApp Business API app covers order updates, COD confirmation, cart recovery and a team inbox together.
Search the Shopify App Store for “WhatsApp” and you get dozens of apps with near-identical promises: recover carts, boost sales, automate everything. The listings hide the differences that matter after you install. Can the app send anything at all, or only put a button on your store? Does it send from your number or the vendor’s? Is the monthly price the whole bill, or the smallest of three?
This guide compares 12 apps across four types, using what each developer publishes on its Shopify App Store listing. It shows who each app suits, what it really costs, and how to check a listing before you install.
Key takeaways
- Pick the type before the app: chat button, official single-purpose app, all-in-one API app, or helpdesk suite.
- Only apps on the WhatsApp Business Platform can send order updates, COD checks and cart reminders automatically.
- Read the pricing block for three things: the plan, any per-message fee the app adds, and "whose number" the messages come from.
Ratings, review counts and prices were read from each app's Shopify App Store listing on 30 September 2026, in US dollars as Shopify shows them. Meta's rates are for recipients in India. Apps and prices change often, so check the listing before you install.

The four types of WhatsApp apps for Shopify
Nearly every app in the store is one of four things. Knowing which one you’re looking at saves most of the comparison work.
1. Chat buttons
These add a WhatsApp icon or widget to your storefront that opens a chat with your number. They’re inbound only: the customer starts every conversation, and you answer from your phone or WhatsApp Web. Good ones add pre-filled messages, business hours, page targeting and several agents’ numbers. None of this needs the WhatsApp Business Platform, so they work with the free WhatsApp Business app.
2. Official single-purpose apps
Two apps come from the platforms themselves. Meta’s WhatsApp app sends order updates. Shopify’s Shopify Messaging sends marketing campaigns across email, SMS and WhatsApp. Each does one job well and leaves the rest to you.
3. All-in-one WhatsApp Business API apps
This is the crowded middle. Providers connect your number to the WhatsApp Business Platform, then read your Shopify events to send order updates, COD confirmations, cart reminders and campaigns from approved templates. Most include a shared inbox. They differ in which events they support, whether they handle the customer’s reply, and how they charge.
4. Helpdesk and AI suites
These start from customer support: an omnichannel inbox for WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and email, with AI answers and ticket routing, plus WhatsApp marketing bolted on. They suit teams answering many chats a day.
Anything your store sends by itself (an order update, a cart reminder) needs types 2 or 3 or 4, because outside a customer’s 24-hour service window WhatsApp only lets businesses send pre-approved template messages. For the setup side of each route, see our guide on how to integrate WhatsApp with Shopify.
How we chose and compared the apps
We searched the Shopify App Store for “WhatsApp” on 30 September 2026 and shortlisted apps that are built around WhatsApp and have at least 150 reviews, plus the two official apps from Meta and Shopify whatever their review count. We then made sure each of the four types was represented.
For each app we read the listing’s description, feature list, pricing block, developer details and launch date. We didn’t install every app or run test campaigns, and we didn’t use review sites or vendor blogs for facts. We don’t score apps, because a star rating built from marketing copy would be false precision. Nobody paid to be included.
ChatMitra also has a Shopify app. It’s covered separately at the end, with its limits, and isn’t ranked.
WhatsApp apps for Shopify compared
| App (developer) | Type | Rating (reviews) | Starting price | Sends automated messages? | Number used |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| WhatsApp (Meta) | Official, order updates | 4.4 (885) | Free to install; Meta bills messages | Yes: order updates | Your own |
| Shopify Messaging (Shopify) | Official, campaigns | 4.8 (4,571, all channels) | Free to install; WhatsApp charged per message on your Shopify invoice | Campaigns, not order flows | Your own or a new one |
| Chaty (Premio) | Chat button | 4.9 (314) | Free (500 visitors a month); paid from $15/month | No | Any WhatsApp number |
| Moose WhatsApp Chat Button (Vegahub) | Chat button + inbox | 5.0 (178) | Free | Cart reminders, per listing | Your own (API via Meta Business Manager) |
| Pushdaddy | Chat + automation | 4.3 (950) | $2.99/month | Yes: carts, orders, tracking | Your own; Meta billed directly |
| Dondy | All-in-one API | 4.9 (817) | Free button; automation from $79.99/month | Yes, on Power Automation and above | Your own (official API) |
| SuperLemon | All-in-one | 3.5 (354) | Free (manual); $9.99 and $29.99/month | Yes, on paid plans | $9.99: SuperLemon's shared number; $29.99: yours |
| Interakt | All-in-one API | 4.2 (228) | $21/month + message charges | Yes | Your own |
| Zoko (Bourbon Science) | All-in-one API | 4.9 (449) | $49.99/month + $0.015 per conversation + Meta | Yes | Your own |
| QuickReply.ai | All-in-one API | 4.9 (217) | $59/month + messaging charges | Yes | Your own |
| BiteSpeed | All-in-one + AI voice | 4.6 (404) | Free to install; usage-based charges | Yes | Your own |
| DelightChat | Helpdesk + marketing | 4.8 (223) | $29/month | Yes | Your own (official API) |
A rating is only as useful as its sample and its age. Shopify Messaging’s 4,571 reviews cover email and SMS too, and a 5.0 from a few dozen reviews says less than a 4.3 from nearly a thousand.
The 12 best WhatsApp apps for Shopify, reviewed
Official apps
1. WhatsApp (by Meta): best for order updates only
Meta’s own app describes itself as “The official app from Meta” for “timely order updates on WhatsApp”. Shoppers opt in at checkout, and the app sends confirmations and shipping updates from your connected WhatsApp Business Account, using your own messages or pre-built templates. It launched on 11 July 2025 and supports 11 languages, including Hindi, Arabic and Urdu.
- Price: free to install. The listing warns that “External charges may be billed by Meta separately from your Shopify invoice”, so Meta’s per-message rates apply.
- Watch out for: it’s a notifications app. There’s no cart recovery, COD confirmation, campaign tool or team inbox. Some recent reviews ask for order tagging and confirm or cancel buttons, and one describes the connection silently dropping on a coexistence number.
- Best for: stores that want official order updates with the fewest moving parts.
2. Shopify Messaging: best for campaigns billed through Shopify
Shopify’s own marketing app sends email, SMS and WhatsApp campaigns from one place, with segments and reporting. Shopify’s Help Center says WhatsApp campaigns go “to subscribers who opt in to receive WhatsApp marketing from your store”, and that you’re “charged per message” on your Shopify invoice. It lists India at $0.024 per marketing message.
- Price: free to install; WhatsApp is pay per message.
- Watch out for: it’s campaigns only, with no order updates, COD checks or cart flows over WhatsApp. It “can’t send WhatsApp marketing messages” to customers in the United States and a few other countries, and new accounts start at 2,000 messages a day.
- Best for: stores already using Shopify Messaging for email that want to add WhatsApp offers without another vendor.
Chat buttons
3. Chaty: best multi-channel chat button
Chaty, from Premio, puts one widget on your store with more than 20 channels: WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, phone, SMS, email and more. You can pre-fill WhatsApp messages, show agent pop-ups, and target the button by page, country or schedule.
- Price: Free up to 500 visitors a month; Basic $15, Pro $39 and Growth $79 a month, priced by visitors.
- Watch out for: it sends nothing on its own. Paid tiers are about traffic and targeting, not messaging.
- Best for: stores whose customers use several chat apps, or anyone who wants a polished button without an API account.
4. Moose WhatsApp Chat Button: best free button with room to grow
Moose, from Vegahub Technology, was the only app in this list showing Shopify’s Built for Shopify badge. It adds a customisable button, an inbox for conversations, customer segmentation, button-click tracking in Google Analytics and Meta Pixel, and WhatsApp reminders for abandoned carts once you connect your number to the WhatsApp Business API through Meta Business Manager.
- Price: Free.
- Watch out for: it launched in May 2025 and the listing is English only. Confirm how cart reminders are charged and which templates it supports before you rely on it.
- Best for: small stores that want a free button now and simple cart reminders later.
Budget automation
5. Pushdaddy: best low-cost automation
Pushdaddy combines live chat, a chat button, push notifications and automated messages for abandoned carts, order confirmation and tracking updates, sent from your own number. The listing says there’s “No commission” on messages: you “Pay directly to facebook”.
- Price: $2.99 a month, with optional top-ups.
- Watch out for: the listing’s wording is unusual, and it bundles many unrelated features. Test the WhatsApp flows on a real order before you switch everything on.
- Best for: price-sensitive stores that want automated carts and order messages without a large plan.
6. Dondy: best freemium path to full automation
Dondy offers a free WhatsApp button, then a Pro plan with manual cart and order messages. Its Power Automation plan adds automated cart recovery, campaigns to Shopify segments, an inbox and an “Official WhatsApp API integration”. Elite adds an AI chatbot, product recommendations and a five-agent inbox. It integrates with Judge.me, Loox, Klaviyo and Shopify Flow.
- Price: Free; Pro $6.99; Power Automation $79.99; Elite $159.99 a month. Both automation plans include “Free 1,000 one-click messages every 30 days”.
- Watch out for: the big jump from $6.99 to $79.99 is where automation starts. Pro messages are sent by hand.
- Best for: stores that want to start free and move to full automation later without switching apps.
7. SuperLemon: best for tiny stores using a personal number
SuperLemon’s Free plan gives you a chat widget, manual cart and order messages, and a Chrome extension that shows customers’ order history inside WhatsApp Web. Automation starts on paid plans.
- Price: Free; Automate $9.99; Scale $29.99 a month. WhatsApp rates start from $0.015.
- Watch out for: on Automate, the listing says “Messages go out from OUR WhatsApp approved phone number, shared across merchants”. Only Scale sends from your own number, adds campaigns and an inbox, and supports using the API alongside the Business app. Its rating (3.5) is the lowest here.
- Best for: very small stores sending messages by hand, or those ready to pay for Scale.
All-in-one WhatsApp Business API apps
8. Interakt: best value for India-first D2C stores
Interakt’s main Shopify app automates cart reminders with a checkout link, COD double confirmation to cut RTO, order placed, shipped and cancelled messages, bulk campaigns, a shared team inbox and a chat widget. It also helps you apply for WhatsApp’s verified badge. A second app, Interakt’s WhatsApp Sales Channel (4.3 from 297 reviews), syncs your Shopify catalog to WhatsApp and turns WhatsApp carts into Shopify carts.
- Price: Starter $21, Growth $41, Advanced $51, Premier $99 a month, each with “Additional WhatsApp Conversation charges”. 14-day free trial.
- Watch out for: delayed notifications and analytics start on Growth, and AI agents and number-capture pop-ups only on Premier.
- Best for: Indian stores with a high COD share that want the core flows at a low monthly cost.
9. Zoko: best for catalog selling inside WhatsApp
Zoko connects Shopify to WhatsApp for broadcasts to Shopify segments, cart recovery, order notifications and a multi-agent inbox, with a flow builder and AI bots that read Shopify data. Customers can “browse your Shopify catalog and buy inside WhatsApp”, and teams can take WhatsApp calls and translate messages.
- Price: Starter $49.99 a month plus $0.015 per conversation and Meta’s rates, with unlimited agents. Plus ($79.99) includes 5,000 conversations a month with no Zoko fee and 5 agents; Elite ($139.99) includes 100,000 and 10 agents. Instagram ($9.99), custom flows ($5.99 each) and AI bots (from $24.99 per bot) are add-ons.
- Watch out for: add-ons can double the headline price. Count the flows and bots you need.
- Best for: D2C brands that sell through conversation and want the catalog inside the chat.
10. QuickReply.ai: best for COD-to-prepaid and advanced journeys
QuickReply.ai covers broadcasts, cart campaigns, order updates, COD confirmation and live chat on its entry plan. Standard adds Click-to-WhatsApp ad integration, COD-to-prepaid conversion, segmentation, a chatbot, feedback collection and cross-sell. Plus adds the catalog, SMS, product retargeting and chat routing.
- Price: Starter $59, Standard $149, Plus $299 a month. The listing says “All taxes & messaging charges extra”.
- Watch out for: the flows most COD stores want (COD-to-prepaid, segmentation) sit on the $149 plan.
- Best for: growing brands that want to move COD buyers to prepaid and run multi-step journeys.
11. BiteSpeed: best for AI voice plus WhatsApp
BiteSpeed pairs WhatsApp marketing with AI voice agents that “call shoppers to recover abandoned carts and confirm COD orders”. It also offers WhatsApp cart recovery, segmented broadcasts, upsell and cross-sell campaigns, COD-to-prepaid nudges, a support inbox across WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, and pop-ups such as spin-the-wheel.
- Price: free to install, with recurring and usage-based charges billed in USD or INR. The listing shows no plan prices.
- Watch out for: without published plans you can’t compare cost upfront. Ask for a quote based on your monthly orders and message volume.
- Best for: high-COD brands that want calls as well as messages to confirm orders.
Helpdesk suites
12. DelightChat: best for support-heavy teams
DelightChat is an omnichannel helpdesk for WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, email and live chat, with a GPT-based AI agent, chatbot and routing. On the WhatsApp side it offers cart and checkout recovery, COD verification and COD-to-prepaid flows, broadcasts, catalog sync, review requests and Shopify Flow workflows.
- Price: Startup $29 (500 support tickets and 2,500 marketing contacts), Scale $99, Growth $299 a month. 14-day free trial.
- Watch out for: plans are sized by tickets and marketing contacts, so a large customer list moves you up a tier even if you send little.
- Best for: stores where support volume, not campaigns, is the main WhatsApp workload.
Also worth knowing
- Wati (3.7 from 122 reviews): cart recovery, AI agents and a shared inbox across WhatsApp, RCS and SMS. From $69 a month; message charges extra.
- AiSensy (4.1 from 55): cart, COD and order notifications plus broadcasts. The Shopify listing shows a $1 one-time charge; plan pricing is on AiSensy’s own website.
- LimeChat (4.9 from 50): AI-led WhatsApp support and marketing for larger brands, from $199 a month with three agent logins.
- Gallabox (4.2 from 5): order notifications and no-code bots; a $5 a month add-on or yearly plans from $1,068.
What a WhatsApp app for Shopify really costs
Most apps have three separate bills. The plan price is usually the smallest of them once you send at volume.
- The app’s plan. Free to a few hundred dollars a month, set by features, agents, contacts or visitors.
- The app’s own per-message or per-conversation fee. Zoko’s Starter plan adds $0.015 per conversation. Others say messages are “extra” without saying whose charge that is. Ask.
- Meta’s charge per delivered template. For recipients in India, Meta charges ₹0.8631 for a marketing template and ₹0.1150 for a utility template (Meta’s pricing page, rate card effective 1 October 2026). Order confirmations and shipping updates can be utility. Cart reminders are always marketing.
Here’s a month for an Indian store sending 1,000 order confirmations and 500 cart reminders on its own number:
| Line | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Meta: order confirmations (utility) | 1,000 × ₹0.1150 | ₹115.00 |
| Meta: cart reminders (marketing) | 500 × ₹0.8631 | ₹431.55 |
| Meta total | ₹546.55 | |
| App plan | Whatever the plan costs | From $0 to $160 or more |
| App's per-message fee | If any | Ask the vendor |
Two things move this more than the plan does. First, whether confirmations stay utility: add a discount code and Meta can treat the template as marketing. Second, your market: Meta doesn’t deliver marketing templates to US numbers (Meta, per-user marketing limits), so a US-focused store gets order updates from WhatsApp but little from cart reminders or campaigns. For category rules and more examples, see WhatsApp Business cost per message.
How to read a Shopify App Store listing before you install
Listings are marketing, but they also contain the details that matter, if you know where to look.
- The pricing block, word for word. Look for “Additional charges”, “messaging charges extra”, “per conversation” and “External charges may be billed by Meta”. Each one is a separate bill.
- Whose number. Search the listing for “your number”, “own number” or “shared”. A shared vendor number is cheaper to start but isn’t your brand on the customer’s phone.
- “Official API” or “WhatsApp Business API”. Automated sending should run on the WhatsApp Business Platform. Tools that automate a personal WhatsApp account risk the number: WhatsApp’s Terms of Service prohibit “bulk messaging, auto-messaging, auto-dialing, and the like”.
- Which plan unlocks the flow you need. COD confirmation or cart recovery is often one tier up from the headline price.
- Recent reviews, not the average. Sort by newest. Look for missed messages, disconnections and how quickly the developer replies.
- Developer, location and launch date. A five-year-old app with hundreds of reviews has a track record. A new app may be excellent, but you’re an early user.
- Data access. The install screen shows which store data the app reads. Order and customer access is normal for these apps. Ask why if it wants more than it needs.
Questions to ask the vendor before you commit
Listings rarely answer these, and they decide whether the app works for you:
- Does it read Shopify’s WhatsApp or SMS consent, or message every phone number on an order? Meta requires opt-in that names your business. Our WhatsApp opt-in guide covers what counts.
- What happens when a customer taps “Confirm” or “Cancel”? Does it tag, update or cancel the order in Shopify, or just drop the reply into an inbox?
- Which checkout sources does cart recovery read? Shopify’s own checkout only, or third-party checkouts too?
- Can it send delivered and out-for-delivery updates? Shopify alone often doesn’t know when a parcel arrives, so this usually needs a courier integration.
- Does it support coexistence, so your number keeps working in the WhatsApp Business app?
- What does “recovered cart” mean in its reports? Converted after a reminder was opened, or converted at all?
Which app for which store: three scenarios
A small Indian store taking 20 orders a day, half on COD. Start with a free chat button and set a greeting message. When COD returns start to hurt, move to an API app that lists COD confirmation, such as Interakt or QuickReply.ai, and switch on COD confirmation and order confirmation before cart reminders. For wording, see our order confirmation message examples.
A US-focused brand selling to US customers. WhatsApp marketing templates won’t reach US numbers, so skip campaign-first apps. Meta’s WhatsApp app for order updates, plus a chat button for pre-sale questions, covers what WhatsApp can do for this store. Put cart recovery on email or SMS.
A growing D2C brand with a support team of five. You need an inbox, routing and automation in one tool. Shortlist Zoko, QuickReply.ai, BiteSpeed and DelightChat, then run the same test on each trial: place a COD order, abandon a cart, reply “Cancel”, and see what happens in Shopify.
Mistakes to avoid when choosing a WhatsApp app for Shopify
- Choosing on star rating alone. A 5.0 from 50 reviews and a 4.3 from 950 tell you different things. Read the newest reviews.
- Installing two apps that both send order updates. Customers get duplicate messages. Switch off the old app’s WhatsApp flows before you turn on the new ones.
- Turning on cart reminders first. They’re marketing messages, the most likely to be blocked. Start with order confirmation and COD confirmation, which customers expect. When you do add them, our WhatsApp abandoned cart recovery guide covers timing and wording.
- Ignoring the number question. Moving from a shared vendor number to your own later means customers see a new sender.
- Skipping consent. Messaging every phone number on every checkout invites blocks, which lower your number’s quality rating and can hold back increases to your messaging limit.
- Testing on a live customer. Place a test order to your own number from checkout to fulfilment first.
Where ChatMitra fits
ChatMitra publishes “Chat Mitra WhatsApp Marketing” on the Shopify App Store. It launched on 17 October 2025, is free to install and, on 30 September 2026, had a single review, so it has no track record comparable to the apps above. That’s why it isn’t ranked.
What it does, per ChatMitra’s code: eight automations (three cart reminders, COD confirmation, order confirmed, cancelled, fulfilled with the tracking link, and a feedback request) on your own number through the official API, with read-only access to your store and contacts tagged by event for later broadcasts. What it doesn’t do yet: it doesn’t read Shopify’s consent fields, so you collect opt-in yourself; COD detection needs the exact “Cash on Delivery (COD)” payment name; button replies land in the inbox without updating Shopify; and there are no delivered or refund updates.
If those limits are acceptable, the Shopify WhatsApp integration page covers the setup, and ChatMitra’s pricing shows what you’d pay on top of Meta’s rates. If they aren’t, the apps above are the better fit.
Summary
- Decide the type first: chat button, official app, all-in-one API app or helpdesk suite.
- For order updates only, Meta’s free WhatsApp app is hard to beat. For WhatsApp campaigns inside Shopify, use Shopify Messaging, unless your customers are in the US.
- For COD confirmation, cart recovery and an inbox, shortlist two or three API apps and compare plan tier, per-message fees and whose number they use.
- Read the pricing block and the newest reviews, and test every flow on your own number before customers see it.
