The best Christmas wishes for customers do three things in two or three sentences: use the customer’s name, thank them for something real from the year, and wish them a good holiday from your business. Keep offers out. On WhatsApp, send an approved marketing template on the morning of 24 or 25 December, in each customer’s local time.
Below are 64 original messages to copy and adapt, from warm greetings and B2B notes to offers, closure notices and Hindi wishes. After them come the parts most wish lists skip: 2026–27 dates, time zones, Meta’s template categories, the US restriction and costs.
Key takeaways
- One job per message: a greeting, an offer or a notice, each on its own day.
- Greetings and offers are marketing templates. Plan for Meta's review and your customers' time zones.
- WhatsApp marketing templates don't reach US numbers at the moment; plan another channel for them.
Facts checked against Meta's and WhatsApp's documentation and official holiday lists from the US Office of Personnel Management, GOV.UK and India's Department of Personnel and Training on 25 September 2026. Rupee figures are Meta's India rates and exclude tax.
How to write a Christmas message customers will actually read
Your message competes with family photos and other brands. The ones that get read share four habits:
- One person’s voice. “The whole team at the bakery” beats “our esteemed organisation”.
- A specific thank-you. An order, a visit, a referral, patience during a delay.
- One idea. A greeting, or an offer, or a notice. Mixing them also changes how Meta categorises the template.
- A sign-off with your business name, so people know who wrote before they open the chat.
How to read the messages. [Name] is the customer’s name; in a WhatsApp template it becomes a variable such as {{1}}. [Business] is your business name, typed in as fixed text. Other brackets, such as [date], are details to fill in. Every message starts and ends with fixed text, because Meta’s template review rules say “The message template cannot start or end with a parameter”. The same page warns that emojis in the body “may also be limited”, so the examples use few.
Christmas and New Year 2026–27: dates and send windows
Christmas Day 2026 and New Year’s Day 2027 both fall on a Friday: two long weekends with a quiet week between.
| Date | Day | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| 26–27 November 2026 | Thu–Fri | US Thanksgiving, then Black Friday, when many retailers open holiday sales |
| 1–18 December | Tue–Fri | Offers, gift guides, delivery cut-offs. Templates already approved |
| 24 December | Thursday | Christmas Eve: greetings, or a last-orders reminder |
| 25 December | Friday | Christmas Day: a US federal holiday, a UK bank holiday and a gazetted holiday for India's central government offices. Greetings only |
| 28 December | Monday | Boxing Day bank holiday across the UK (substitute day) |
| 31 December | Thursday | New Year's Eve: event reminders, year-end thank-yous |
| 1 January 2027 | Friday | New Year's Day: US federal holiday, UK bank holiday. Scotland adds Monday 4 January |
Sources: the US Office of Personnel Management’s federal holidays, GOV.UK bank holidays and the 2026 gazetted holiday list issued under India’s Department of Personnel and Training order of 3 July 2025.
Timing and time zones
Send greetings in the customer’s morning, not yours: 9 am in Mumbai is 3:30 am in London. If you sell abroad, tag contacts by region and send one campaign per time zone. Choose the morning of 24 or 25 December for Christmas, not both. For New Year, the morning of 1 January beats midnight, when personal messages bury yours; B2B clients may prefer Monday 4 January.
Christmas wishes for customers
Pure greetings, with no offer, for 24 or 25 December. Change the detail in the middle to fit your business.

Christmas greetings for clients, partners and suppliers
B2B messages are more formal and work best with no offer. A named person, a specific thank-you and wishes for their team go further than any discount.
- Dear [Name], twelve months of clear briefs, fair deadlines and real partnership: thank you. Everyone at [Business] wishes you and your team a restful Christmas and a strong start to 2027.

- Hello [Name], Christmas greetings from the whole crew at [Business]. Thank you for keeping our trucks busy and our drivers supplied with chai at your loading bay. See you in the new year.
Happy holidays and season’s greetings for mixed audiences
“Merry Christmas” is warmer when you know your customers celebrate it. When a list spans many countries and faiths, as most B2B lists do, an inclusive greeting welcomes everyone. Keep both versions as separate templates and send each to the right segment.
- Hi [Name], happy holidays from everyone at [Business]. However you celebrate this season, we hope it brings rest, good food and people you love.
- Dear [Name], season’s greetings, and thank you for being with us in 2026. Wishing you a calm end to the year and a hopeful start to the next. [Business]

- Dear [Name], the [Business] team sends its best wishes for a joyful holiday season and a healthy, successful 2027.

Year-end thank-you with Christmas and New Year wishes
One message for the whole season. For thank-yous outside the holidays, such as after a first purchase or a referral, see our thank-you messages for customers.
- Hi [Name], before we switch off the office lights for 2026: thank you for every order, message and recommendation. Merry Christmas and a bright New Year from [Business].

A reply to a customer who wished you first (message 40) goes inside the 24-hour customer service window they opened, so it doesn’t need a template.

Christmas and New Year for businesses in India
Christmas Day is a gazetted holiday for India’s central government offices in 2026, and DoPT’s 2027 list, issued on 16 July 2026, keeps it among the holidays they must all observe. New Year’s Day is only an optional restricted holiday there, so 1 January is a working day for those offices. Christmas greetings suit customers you know celebrate it, while a New Year wish suits almost any list, so it makes sense to send the New Year message more widely.

Diwali, Navratri and the Gujarati New Year have their own guide: Diwali and Navratri wishes for customers.
Are Christmas wishes marketing or utility templates?
Marketing. Meta’s template categorisation guidelines (updated 15 September 2026) list “Build Customer Relationships” as a marketing objective: “Strengthen customer relationships through personalized messages or by prompting new conversations.” One of Meta’s examples is a year-end thank-you: “As we approach the end of the year, we reflect on what drives us: {{Name}}. Thank you for being a {{valued_customer}}.” Meta also treats “Templates with mixed content” and “Templates where contents are unclear” as marketing.
A utility template has to meet both of Meta’s criteria: it “Must be non-promotional, not containing any promotional or persuasive intent”, and it must be “specific to or requested by the user (clearly related to their order, account, services, or transactions) OR essential or critical to the user”.
| Message type (numbers above) | Likely category | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Greetings and thank-yous (1–39, 42–43, 59, 61–63) | Marketing | A relationship message, not tied to an order or account |
| Offers and invitations (44–50, 58) | Marketing | Promotional |
| Closure or cut-off notice to your whole list (52–54, 56) | Marketing or utility | Utility needs a non-promotional update tied to the customer's orders, account or service; a general notice may be judged marketing. Meta decides on the exact wording |
| Delivery date for a customer's own order (55) | Can be utility | Specific to their order, if it carries no greeting or offer |
| A notice with a greeting added (41, 51, 60, 64) | Marketing | Mixed content |
Labelling a greeting as utility doesn’t save money. Since 9 April 2025, a template submitted as utility that Meta judges to be marketing “is approved as MARKETING”, and Meta rechecks approved templates, giving “A 1-day advance notice” before switching one, or none for businesses already warned. ChatMitra’s explainer on marketing, utility and authentication messages covers the categories in plain language.

Can you send Christmas messages to US numbers on WhatsApp?
Not as marketing templates, for now. Meta’s page on per-user marketing limits says: “WhatsApp does not currently deliver marketing template messages to WhatsApp users with United States phone numbers (numbers composed of a +1 dialing code and a US area code)”, and that sending one “will result in an error.”
- Remove US numbers from marketing sends. Canadian numbers share +1 but not US area codes, so the rule as written doesn’t cover them.
- Use email, or SMS with the consent US rules require, for US promotions.
- Reply freely when US customers write first. Their message opens a 24-hour customer service window, and your replies inside it aren’t templates.
The same page describes a limit that bites in a busy season: WhatsApp may cap the marketing templates one person receives, based on their “recent marketing message read rate and how many messages they currently have in their inbox”. Full December inboxes can mean more of your messages are held back. Those fail with error 131049, and Meta asks you to “wait at least 24 hours before resending the template message.”
How to send Christmas wishes on WhatsApp
| Broadcast list (Business app) | Business broadcasts (Business app) | WhatsApp Business Platform (via a provider) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reaches | Contacts who have saved your number, no one else | Contacts you pick in the app | Opted-in customers, saved or not |
| Size | Up to 256 contacts per list (WhatsApp's general help page) | Your selected audience | Your messaging limit: 250 unique customers per 24 hours for a new business portfolio, rising as you scale |
| Approval | No template approval | Reviewed by Meta before sending | Each template reviewed before first use |
| Scheduling | Not described in WhatsApp's help page | Send or schedule | Depends on your provider |
| Cost | No per-message fee; some countries see a monthly broadcast limit | A fee per delivered message, after any free messages | Meta's rate plus the provider's fee |
| Where it works | Phone app only, not Windows, Mac or Web | Limited countries | Worldwide, except marketing to US numbers |
Sources: WhatsApp Help Center on broadcast lists, Business app broadcast lists and business broadcasts; Meta on messaging limits. For a few dozen regulars, a broadcast list is enough; see our WhatsApp broadcast list guide. Beyond that, use the Platform:
- Check consent. WhatsApp’s Business Messaging Policy requires that “you have received opt-in permission from the recipient”.
- Tag by country, language and relationship: retail, B2B, Hindi speakers, US numbers.
- Submit templates by early December. Meta’s approval decision “can take up to 24 hours”; leave room for a rejection and a second try. Choose marketing, add an image header and a button, and include sample values. If last year’s template is still approved, reuse it; Meta rejects a new template whose body and footer duplicate an existing one.
- Schedule one campaign per region, for the customer’s morning. If your limit is still 250 customers a day, spread a large greeting over several mornings.
- Exclude opt-outs and US numbers from marketing sends.
- Plan for replies, including an automatic reply for the days you’re closed.
ChatMitra covers the Platform side. You create marketing templates with a media header and buttons, then send a broadcast that includes or excludes contacts by tag. Each campaign is scheduled for a single date and time, picked in your own browser’s time zone, so create one campaign per region for customers abroad. Reports show sent, delivered, read and failed, and you can retarget by those statuses. For closures, the Pro plan’s fixed reply (per ChatMitra’s pricing page) answers every incoming message; it has no date range, so switch it on when you close and off when you reopen. See WhatsApp templates in ChatMitra.
What does a Christmas WhatsApp campaign cost?
Meta charges per delivered template, by category and “the recipient WhatsApp phone number’s country calling code” (Meta pricing). Greetings and offers are marketing, so a global list costs very different amounts per country.
| Recipient's market | Marketing (INR card) | Marketing (USD card) |
|---|---|---|
| India | ₹0.8631 | $0.0118 |
| North America (Canada; US marketing isn't delivered) | ₹1.8313 | $0.025 |
| United Arab Emirates | ₹4.2114 | $0.0576 |
| United Kingdom | ₹4.6496 | $0.0635 |
| Germany | ₹10.0073 | $0.1365 |
Meta’s rate cards effective 1 October 2026, linked from its pricing page.
For 1,000 delivered messages to Indian numbers, Meta charges ₹863.10. ChatMitra’s Starter and Pro plans add ₹0.20 once per contact per 24-hour conversation, ₹200, for ₹1,063.10 in total. Enterprise (₹2,499 a month) has no per-conversation fee. The same message to 500 UK customers costs ₹2,324.80 from Meta, plus ₹100 on Starter or Pro. See ChatMitra’s pricing.
Replies cost something too. Free-form replies inside the 24-hour window are service messages, and since 1 October 2026 Meta bills them at ₹0.1150 each in India, the same as utility, once a phone number has used its free tier of “1,000 delivered service messages per month”. Meta can change rates only on the first day of a quarter, so recheck the card in December before a 1 January send. Our WhatsApp Business cost per message guide has the full breakdown.

Opt-in, opt-out and how often to message in December
Meta’s policy warns that its “systems may limit the amount of messages a business can send … based on this user feedback”. Users can block or report a business, so every extra December message should earn its place.
- Message only people who opted in to hear from your business. Our WhatsApp opt-in guide covers valid consent and proof.
- Honour every stop request. You “must respect all requests (either on or off WhatsApp)” to opt out, the policy says.
- Keep December to about three messages per customer: one offer, one greeting, one notice. That’s a sensible ceiling, not a Meta rule.
- Tag opt-outs and exclude the tag. In ChatMitra, a keyword auto-reply can answer “stop” and you add an opted-out tag, but broadcasts don’t skip opted-out contacts automatically; exclude the tag in every campaign.
Mistakes that spoil holiday messages
- Christmas greetings to everyone, including customers who don’t celebrate it.
- A discount code stapled onto a greeting. It reads as an ad in disguise.
- Templates submitted in Christmas week, US numbers left in marketing sends, or one send time for a global list.
- Silence while you’re closed. Set a closure reply with the reopening date.
Where ChatMitra fits
ChatMitra sends approved templates to your opted-in customers and gives your team a shared inbox for the replies. It doesn’t post Status updates or send SMS, and no provider can deliver marketing templates to US numbers right now. For year-round planning, see the WhatsApp marketing strategy guide.
