What is a WhatsApp website widget?

It is a small floating WhatsApp button that sits in the corner of your website. When a visitor clicks it, a little chat panel opens with your welcome message, and one more click opens a WhatsApp chat with your number, with your default message already typed in.

Is the WhatsApp widget generator free?

Yes. Creating a widget is free and does not need a ChatMitra account. Fill in the form, click Create widget, and copy the code.

How do I add the widget to my website?

Paste the one-line code just before the closing

tag of your site, or into your website builder's custom code / footer scripts setting. It works on any site that lets you add a script tag. The widget appears on every page that has the code.

Can I edit or delete a widget after creating it?

No. Widgets cannot be edited once created. If you want a different number, text or colour, create a new widget and replace the code on your website with the new one. Check the preview carefully before you click Create widget.

What does 'Allowed websites' do?

It stops other websites from showing your widget. Enter the domains you will paste the code on, one per line. 'example.com' also covers 'www.example.com', and '*.example.com' covers every subdomain. Leave it empty to allow any website. Because widgets cannot be edited, make sure the list is right before creating.

Will the widget slow down my website?

No noticeable impact. The script is about 3 KB compressed, loads asynchronously so it never blocks your page, uses no external fonts or libraries, and only builds the chat panel when a visitor opens it.

Does the widget use cookies or track my visitors?

No. The widget sets no cookies and sends no analytics. A visitor's browser downloads the script and your widget settings from widget.chatmitra.com, and your logo from wherever you host it, like any other file on a web page.

Where do the chats go? Can ChatMitra read them?

The button opens WhatsApp directly with your number, so the conversation happens in WhatsApp between your visitor and you. ChatMitra does not see or store those messages.

Which phone number should I use?

Any number registered on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business, written with its country code — for example +91 98765 43210. Numbers without a country code are rejected, because the widget cannot guess which country you are in.

Why is my widget not showing?

Check three things: the code is on the page (view the page source), the website's domain is in your Allowed websites list, and your site's Content Security Policy, if it has one, allows scripts and connections to https://widget.chatmitra.com. Your browser's console shows a '[ChatMitra widget]' message explaining what went wrong.
