12 WhatsApp Promotion Message Samples
Copy a sample, swap the placeholders, get it approved once — then reuse it for every campaign you run.
Promotional messages are the hardest category to get approved and the easiest to overuse. These twelve samples are written the way Meta's reviewers expect — specific offer, real wording, one clear action — so they clear review and still sound like a person wrote them.

What makes a WhatsApp promotion message sample work
Every sample above follows the same three-part shape, and it is worth understanding it rather than just copying the wording:
- The offer, in the first line. What it is, how much off, and on what. People read WhatsApp on a lock screen — if the offer is in line three, it does not exist.
- A deadline. "Until {{end_date}}" gives a reason to act now. Without one you are asking someone to remember you later, and they will not.
- One action. A single link or a single reply word. Two calls to action split attention and reliably lower response.
Promotional vs utility — pick the right category
Meta sorts every template into marketing, utility or authentication, and the category decides both the price and how strictly it is reviewed. Promotional messages are marketing: the most expensive tier, and the one that needs opt-in.
Before you file something as promotional, check whether it actually is. An order confirmation, a delivery update or a payment receipt reports on something the customer already set in motion — that is a utility message, it costs less, and it clears review more easily. Only messages that exist to make someone buy belong in the marketing category.
Why promotional templates get rejected
Rejections are common on this category and almost always come down to four things:
- Placeholders submitted without realistic sample values.
- A message that is mostly variables with very little real text around them.
- Absolute or misleading claims — guaranteed results, best in India.
- Wording that does not match the category selected.
Write the template exactly as you would send it, fill in every sample value, and pick the category honestly. Most rejections disappear.
How often to send, and to whom
About one promotional message a week to any given customer is a sensible ceiling, and only when you genuinely have something worth their attention. WhatsApp is a personal channel. Treat it like an SMS blast and people block and report you — enough of that pushes down the quality rating on your number, and a lower rating cuts how many people you are allowed to message per day.
Segment before you send. A win-back offer to customers who bought six months ago will outperform the same message sent to your whole list, and it costs you less because you are sending fewer conversations.
More WhatsApp template message examples
If you want examples written for a specific sector rather than general promotions, the full template message library has sets for e-commerce, education, healthcare, real estate, finance, travel, automobile and events. The general templates cover the utility side — order updates, reminders and feedback requests.

What is a good WhatsApp promotion message sample?
A good one names the offer, the item and the deadline in the first line, then gives a single action. For example: 'Hi {{customer_name}}, {{discount}}% off {{product_name}} until {{end_date}}. Shop here: {{shop_link}}'. That is short enough to read on a lock screen, specific enough to be worth opening, and it has one thing to tap. Vague hype like 'huge sale, don't miss out' performs worse and is more likely to be rejected at template review.
What counts as a promotional message on WhatsApp?
Anything that markets something — offers, product launches, festive sales, re-engagement nudges, upsells. Meta files these under the marketing category, which is the most expensive of the three and the one with the strictest rules. A message that simply reports something the customer already did, like an order confirmation or a payment receipt, is a utility message instead and costs less.
Do WhatsApp promotional messages need approval?
Yes. Every promotional template has to be submitted and approved by Meta before you can send it. Approval usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to about 48 hours. You also need opt-in from each person you send it to — approval covers the wording, opt-in covers the permission, and you need both.
Why do promotional templates get rejected?
The common reasons are all fixable: placeholders with no sample values filled in, a message that is almost entirely variables with little real text, misleading or absolute claims, or wording that does not match the category you picked. Write the template as you would actually send it, fill in realistic samples for every placeholder, and pick the marketing category honestly.
How often should I send promotional messages?
Less often than you think. Roughly one a week to any given customer is a sensible ceiling, and only when you have something genuinely worth their attention. WhatsApp is a personal channel — people block and report businesses that treat it like an SMS blast, and enough of that pushes down the quality rating on your number, which in turn cuts how many people you are allowed to message per day.
What is the difference between a promotional and a utility message?
Intent. A promotional message tries to get the customer to buy or come back; a utility message reports on something already in motion, like a shipment or a payment. Utility messages are cheaper and easier to approve, so it is worth checking whether what you want to send is genuinely promotional before you file it as one.
Can I send a WhatsApp promotion to someone who never messaged me?
Only if they opted in to hear from you — at checkout, on your website, through a form, or anywhere else where it was clear what they were agreeing to. Buying a contact list and messaging it is a fast way to get your number reported and your quality rating destroyed. Opt-in is not just a rule here, it is what keeps the channel working.
How do I write a WhatsApp template message example with placeholders?
Wrap each variable in double curly braces, like {{customer_name}} or {{discount}}, and give Meta a realistic sample value for each when you submit. Keep the number of placeholders low — a template that is mostly variables reads as spam to the reviewer and to the customer. Two or three per message is usually plenty.
